Court work, and it is necessary that there should be some
one to attend to current work while he is so engaged, some-

-times for days together.
At the same time there is not at
all times a full day's work for an Assistant, and if means
can be found of giving the Crown Solicitor a certain
amount of assistance while he is in the Colony, and of
replacing him while on leave, the necessity of providing
an Assistant Crown Solicitor might be overcome.

The solution I have to suggest is
that the Land Office and Official Receiver's Office be
amalgamated with the proposed Crown Solicitor's Department

with the Crown Solicitor as Head, the Land Officer and
Assistant Land Officer to attend to the work now appertain-
-ing to the Land Office with the addition of the
preparation of Agreements relating to land which has
already been transferred to the Land Officer; and the
Deputy Official Receiver, who should in future be called
Official Receiver since he does in fact all the work, to
attend to Bankruptcy and Trade Marks. To these three
Officers could be assigned by the Crown Solicitor such
